The Chichester Trunk Gravity Main (CTGM) runs for 70 kilometres from Chichester Dam to the western outskirts of Newcastle. The CTGM is a vital component of the water distribution network and delivers water from Dungog Water Treatment Plant to the major population centers of Newcastle and the Coalfields.

Eire Constructions were engaged by Hunter Water to complete the upgrade works on the link from Tarro to Beresfield. The works included the design and construction of a new 1200 diameter Mild Steel Main for a length of 2200 metres, clearing and grubbing, removal of the existing main, and connections to the existing main, to allow the new main to be commissioned.

The project had a number of constraints including the management of items of cultural significance, access issues given the sites close proximity to the New England Highway, poor ground conditions, narrow construction corridors and liaison with numerous public stake holders and property owners.

This project, one of critical importance to the communities in the region, has again shown that Eire Constructions is considered a “whole of project” contractor by its clients, undertaking all aspects of the project from design through to construction and commissioning, and including community liaison throughout the project’s duration.
